July Partnership with the Yellow Brick House to Empower Women

In Ontario, femicide rates have increased by approximately 53% in the past year. Upon seeing the statistics about the prevalent abuse in women’s lives, our team partnered with the Yellow Brick House to take a stand for equality. In particular, the organization’s values stood out to us for the integrity and compassion they brought in helping women rebuild their lives.
This month, we invited Pamela Deveaux to our Monthly Reconnect and Revive Meeting to speak on the understated issue of domestic violence. She spoke to the hard facts of the oppression and discrimination that continues to plague women’s lives. Unfortunately, the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated the situation by locking families at home. To enumerate, homicide rates have doubled since the start of the pandemic. However, the Yellow Brick House aims to end these tragedies with its life-saving services.
As each woman who walks through the doors of Yellow Brick House faces their unique situation, the organization tailors its services to meet their needs. Some of the services offered to help women rebuild their lives include:
- Counseling sessions: Helping women heal and build their lives.
- Parenting support: Assisting moms with infants or toddlers.
- Legal information and support: Providing women with assistance in dealing with family law matters.
- Transitional housing support worker: Assisting women on a short-term basis to leave an abusive situation.
We at Brevitas feel privileged to partner with Yellow Brick House and support their mission to empower the most vulnerable members of our community  – women and children. We look forward to seeing the progression in their efforts to reach and support more women in crisis.
