April Conquering Cancer with the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation

Cancer is remorseless and it’s likely that our lives have been touched by it in some manner. That’s why Brevitas was thrilled to support one of the world leaders in the area of cancer stem cell research and patient survivorship program development with a $500 donation. The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation prides itself in its ability to create opportunities for scientists to take unconventional approaches to research in the battle against cancer.
The Marketing Director, Nancy McInnis led the Brevitas team through an intriguing presentation detailing the work of the organization. Namely, the organization stands out in its high percentage of patients that are enrolled in clinical trials. Approximately, 20% of patients are in clinical trials which almost doubles the national average of 5% in Canada, US and the UK. Other key differentiators of the organization include:
- Radiation Medicine: They have the largest radiation medicine program under a single roof in North America.
- Surgical Oncology: They have the largest surgical oncology team in Canada and one of the largest in the world.
- Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH): They have one of the largest stem cell transplant units in Canada and are leading the way with the most comprehensive Immune Therapy Program in Canada.
- Supportive Care: Their cancer surgeons, along with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, led the development of the Guided Therapeutics Operating Room (GTx OR), the largest research operating room in Canada.
Overall, McInnis’ presentation was thorough and it reaffirmed our decision in partnering with The Princess Margaret. With over 700 active trials, and about 150 new trials started every year, we’re excited to witness the next transformative breakthrough that the organization will uncover.
